Planning Permission Granted for Cyprus' First Crematorium

Planning Permission Granted for Cyprus' First Crematorium

10 June 2026

Benchmark Architects is delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for Golden Leaves Cyprus Crematorium, a landmark project that will become the first crematorium in Cyprus. This significant milestone marks the next stage in the delivery of a facility that will provide families with a dignified, modern, and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional burial.

Working alongside Vefeades & Vefeades Architects, Benchmark Architects is leading the design of Golden Leaves Cyprus Crematorium in Agia Varvara, Paphos. The project represents not only the first crematorium in Cyprus, but also an important step in the modernisation of funeral care services on the island, ten years after cremation legislation was introduced.

For many years, individuals and families wishing to choose cremation have had to arrange services overseas, making this a particularly important development for both Cypriot residents and the island's international community.

With planning approval now secured, construction is expected to commence in September 2026, with completion anticipated approximately 18 months later. The project will establish a new chapter in end-of-life care in Cyprus, delivering a facility that combines architectural quality, environmental responsibility, and compassionate design.
