Huntingdon Crematorium Achieves Platinum Greener Globe Funeral Standard

Huntingdon Crematorium has been awarded the Platinum Greener Globe Funeral Standard, achieving an outstanding score of 97.1%, becoming the first crematorium in the UK to reach this level.
Designed by Benchmark Architects, the crematorium was created with sustainability at its core. The facility uses two electric cremators, significantly reducing carbon emissions. Excess heat generated during the cremation process is also reused to warm the crematorium building and nearby glasshouses, improving overall energy efficiency.
The crematorium was designed to provide a calm, dignified environment for families, while also meeting the highest environmental standards. Natural materials, generous glazing, and a clear, simple layout create a peaceful and welcoming setting.
This Platinum certification recognises the crematorium’s commitment to reducing environmental impact and represents an important step forward for sustainable crematorium design in the UK.
