Heritage Planning Success

We are delighted to announce that Benchmark Architects, in partnership with Pauley Ltd, has successfully secured Listed Building Consent for a Grade II Listed Farmhouse in Milton Keynes.
Working closely with Milton Keynes Planning Department and the Conservation team, we achieved successful consent just before Christmas within the statutory 8-week timeframe. Milton Keynes Council maintained excellent communication and updates throughout the process, despite their internal system upgrade. Thank you to Planning Officer Natalie Shafiroff and Conservation Officer Christopher Hooper for their proactive approach and assistance during the application. Thank you to Haider Zafar for the excellent CGI work.

The scheme will see a redundant youth hostel return to its former glory as a family dwelling. Sensitive interventions, including the use of traditional lime mortar for repairs and the retention of original features wherever possible, will complement and maintain the character and charm of the Listed Building. Internally, the proposals provide a generous open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space opening onto the large established garden, along with snug, office, boot room, utility room, and five double bedrooms with four bathrooms on the first floor.

This approval marks the completion of the planning phase of the wider scheme, which included a barn conversion and extension, refurbishment and alterations to the Manor House, newly erected outbuildings and external works. This successful outcome demonstrates our commitment to preserving and enhancing the local heritage. It is a result of our collaborative and attentive approach to projects. We maintain close contact with the council and client team to ensure a smooth planning journey and a successful outcome while seeking opportunities to provide the best solution in terms of value and design. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Pauley Ltd and Wallace Young to navigate this important milestone. We are incredibly proud of the teamwork and dedication that have brought us to this exciting point, and we look forward to continuing this momentum into the next phase.
