Exploring Tile Innovation in Modena, Italy

Benchmark Architects were lucky enough to be invited on another European trip with Pyro & Echo / Trimline Group, this time to Italy! Our architect, Helaena, spent a couple of days in Modena exploring the exceptional showrooms at Italgraniti Group and Iris Ceramica Group.
The trip provided an insightful look into the latest developments in tile design and manufacturing. A wide range of collections were showcased, and it was particularly impressive to see how convincingly porcelain can replicate natural materials, with some finishes almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing.
Visiting the production lines was a real highlight, offering a behind-the-scenes view of how these innovative products are created. Seeing first-hand the precision, technology, and craftsmanship involved reinforced just how far porcelain manufacturing has evolved.
Beyond the tiles, the experience also included a taste of Modena’s local culture, with regional wines, traditional balsamic vinegar, and delicious local dishes enjoyed in great company.
An inspiring trip and a fantastic opportunity to explore new materials, ideas, and innovations that will help shape future design work.
