Planning Consent Granted for Residential Development in Luton

We have another exciting development in Luton where planning consent has been granted for 177 high-quality residential apartments. The development will provide a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed dwellings, two commercial units at ground level, a good provision of cycle storage which will encourage more sustainable travel, enclosed refuse storage and an external landscaped courtyard.

The site is located to the North of Luton Town Centre, on the corner of Guildford Street and Church Street and is currently utilised as a private access only car park/car storage space.

The building design has been carefully considered drawing on the historic influences around the site within the context of the conservation area. The design will reconnect with the hat factory heritage of the town using high quality active frontages at street level with commercial units facing Guildford Street and Church Street, the design will also bring significant landscaping and biodiversity gain through internal courtyard.

The materials on the facade take influence from the surrounding materiality and are of a high quality and long lasting contemporary architectural detailing rather than an imitation of the historic styles. External materials, window proportions and special detailing have been chosen and developed to reconnect the site with the hat factory heritage.

We are very happy with this outcome and it’s been a pleasure to work with Nexus Planning and Merchant Taylor Guildford. Keep an eye out for regular updates.
