Crematorium
The interior has been designed to echo the external building design. With the intention to create an uplifting, hopeful and comforting space. A light, reflective and inclusive atmosphere with high levels of natural light, fresh air, controlled acoustics and view onto carefully designed external gardens.
The crematorium building accommodates a flexible multi-faith hall for approximately 125 people and the associated crematory facilities.
A building to accommodate staff and waiting areas adjoin the main service hall building. A separate function building is located adjacent to the crematorium building that will provide space for a cafe and event space. Landscaping features include a tree lined avenue, wildflower meadows, a grazing paddock and a pond. Parking for approx. 179 cars is being provided across 3 car parks and will include 12 disabled bays.
Hambleton Crematorium is a new build crematorium facility on the outskirts of Thirsk, surrounded by open farmland and agricultural buildings; commissioned by Hambleton District Council in conjunction with CDS Group.
The building elevations have been designed to enhance the concept of simple, barn structures sitting within a rural landscape. The main buildings are connected by flat-roofed links and a covered external canopy over the flower court links the main service hall to the function/ wake building. Each space has a distinct function and has been designed to fall into a sequence as visitors make their way through the building from arrival at the welcome building, through to the Service Hall. A formal, processional entrance provides direct access to the Service Hall from the Porte Cochere. On leaving the Service Hall, visitors are guided through the external Flower Court where upon they can make their way back to the car park, or to the function/wake building.
